cures for bad breath

Mouth fresheners are a great way to cover your smelly breath – from time to time. But relying on them to remove smelly breath is just a cover up and you should stop fooling yourself if this is the case.

That’s not to say that the occasional meal with spicy food, too many onions or garlic are reason to think you have chronic halitosis and run to research all the causes of bad breath and bad breath treatments.

But if it’s more than that the odd meal or you find that your breath needs freshening every couple of hours and your whipping out breath freshener every half hour, you need to look a little closer at your bad breath because it’s rare to have friends and family tell you that you may have halitosis.

This isn’t the case with your dentist. That’s their job and what you’re paying them for: oral hygiene and dental advice.

A dentist will thoroughly examine your mouth, gums and teeth to determine if one of them is causing your bad breath or halitosis. If that’s the case, your dentist will decide on a course of halitosis treatment to deal with the specifics of your case.

Children or toddler foul breath is common if they don’t know how to brush their teeth properly. And they’re not the only ones, adults quickly sticking toothpaste and a toothbrush in their mouths and moving it around haphazardly is an equally sloppy and ineffective job of brushing their teeth.

Removing the stale coating of old food particles from your tongue and tiny pieces of food stuck between teeth or under the gums is what your dentist will do if you don’t know how. And hopefully a quick lesson from your dentist on how to keep your mouth clean will help you get rid of your smelly breath in the future.

Your dentist will also remove accumulated plaque, deal with gum disease and prescribe antibiotics if you need them as a breath treatment.

Bad Breath Treatment Beyond Your Mouth

If you have a severe case of gum disease your dentist may refer you to a specialist. But not all causes of bad breath start in the mouth. Your dentist may send you to a physician to investigate other issues that might be causing your breath problems.

One such cause might be ketones; smelly chemicals normally excreted through urine, perspiration and exhaled breath. Halitosis can be the result of a buildup of ketones in the blood often seen in cases of diabetes, starving, severe weight loss or too much protein in their diet.

Ketosis can be life threatening. Halitosis may be an indication of a serious medical condition. That is why every case of persistent smelly breath deserves professional attention.

Fortunately, bad breath treatment is relatively simple once the underlying cause has been determined. So see your dentist and put your mind at ease and your bad breath away.

However, it can recur if a patient does not follow prescriptions, or change personal habits. If you liked this article please leave a comment.

Do You Know the Number One Solution to Cure Bad Breath?

Posted: March 25th, 2009 | Author: admin | Filed under: Bad Breath Cures and Remedies | Tags: , , , , , | 1 Comment »

tongue cleaner bad breath productsIt’s estimated that one in four people suffers from bad breath. That means you – and me, sometime in our lives will have or have had breath that puts people off because we just don’t smell right.

And until you find a cure for your breath, you’ll be scaring people away, may even giving them the wrong impression; that you’re either not well or not hygienic.

Serious bad breath, known as halitosis, should be treated as quickly as possible not only so that it doesn’t change the way people see you or deal with but helps you to treat any other health issues you have and don’t know about. Ignorance might feel all right but it also might kill you. A lot more than your breath will start to smell.

Oral Bacteria

Oral bacteria live in your mouth and responsible for ninety percent of smelly breath. The tongue is the biggest culprit and one of the organs we rarely think about. But most oral bacteria live at the back of the tongue. That means that’s where bad breath can accumulate and gather unless you do something about it.

oral bad breath

Removing the bacteria from the tongue, either on it in the tiny grooves or under it becomes very important. A sign of tongue neglect leading to bad breath is a coating of bacteria on the tongue. Your tongue should be pink and healthy to look at.

If it’s not then you have a problem. Using a tooth brush or tongue scraper to clean it is simple enough. Your tongue is a sign of your over all health so if that’s not healthy then chances are other parts of you aren’t either.

Bacteria can flourish in the mouth, between the teeth and on the tongue, especially after eating food.

Particles of food can be stuck between the teeth or in the gum line and the bacteria will then begin to thrive on it. This is where the problem of bacteria caused badbreath begins.

Deal with this and you are half way there.

Number One Solution to Getting Rid Of Your Bacteria

You can easily remove oral bacteria from under the gum lines, on the teeth and tongue by regular brushing, flossing and tongue cleaning every day after meals and before you go to bed.

Yes, it’s that easy. But most people can’t be bothered and bad breath follows everywhere. Is that you?

When I say brushing, flossing and tongue cleaning, that’s at least two or three times every day.

These three little steps will do a lot to get rid of bacteria in your mouth and reduce your badbreath.

Masking your breath with fresheners, gum or mints might do as a short term solution but in the end you are still stuck with bad breath.

You aren’t doing yourself or anyone else any favors by masking the smell even though it might seem like it at the time.

If oral bacteria are really causing your smelly breath then removing it as quickly as possible before it continues to grows is the best remedy

So I hope that I have convinced you that the best breath cure if caused by oral bacteria is to thoroughly and regularly cleanse your teeth, gums and tongue.

Finding and using an effective cure for bad breath that works is liberating. Once bad breath is gone from your mouth and your life you will feel confident when talking to people because you know that you’ve found a cure for bad breath that really works.

Cure Bad Breath Caused by a High Protein Diet

Posted: March 20th, 2009 | Author: admin | Filed under: Causes of Bad Breath | Tags: , , , , , , | 1 Comment »

high protein cause of bad breath

Who would think that you would need to cure bad breath from a high protein diet?

In fact, who would think that a mostly protein diet would even be a cause of badbreath or halitosis?

Most people don’t associate weight loss or a high protein weight loss diet with foul breath but eating a high protein diet can cause smelly breath.

It’s very popular today to lose weight using a diet low in carbohydrates and mostly protein; this is called a high protein diet. The idea behind this type of diet is that by eliminating carbohydrates from your diet, your body is forced to use its fat reserves for energy.

But this has repercussions as you’ll see.

Ketones From Metabolism

A predominantly protein diet that forces the body to use its fat reserves causes this fat to expel or generate ketones. Ketone is a term referring to molecules produced as a by-product of fat metabolism or consumption. And they smell.

The body uses most of the ketones for energy except for one type of ketone molecule that it can’t digest.

Acetone Is the Ketone Problem

Acetone molecules are not processed by the body and instead are released through urine, perspiration or breath. But too much ketone released means halitosis and this type of diet can start a chain of events that end in chronic halitosis.

Urine can be checked for levels of ketones. And if the body releases large amounts of ketones the body is said to be in a state of ketosis.

Unfortunately, acetone ketones released through breath have their own distinctive and unpleasant odor. If you are experiencing stale breath from a protein diet then a bad breath cure or bad breath remedy may be suitable for you.

Having said that however, it’s not always easy to eliminate chronic bad breath caused by a high protein diet because this particular bad breath is a by-product of the fat burning process which is what you want; fat loss.

Is The Protein Diet Worth Smelly Breath?

If your bad breath becomes serious you may need to decide whether a high protein diet is worth it.  Dieters on a predominantly protein diet often recommend taking an herbal body mint taken orally or using mint flavored mouth sprays.

Now you know that a high protein diet can cause bad breath, it will be easier for you to eliminate bad breath by changing the amount of high protein in your diet or learning to live with it. But who will live with you?

Drink More Chamomile

Perhaps you recall chamomile from the times you were sick and your parent, friend, or partner, gave you a hot cup of this therapeutic drink to ease your suffering stomach. Chamomile in fact is known for centuries, as Romans used it daily while English have added it to their alternative “tea-breaks” to give them a positive spin. If you have not tried it during a cold winter night or you have not offered it in one of your gatherings, it is probably time to learn some things about this amazing infusion.

Chamomile is actually a flower that comes from a herb named “Chamomilla.” Different areas around the globe cultivate chamomile and it is found in abundance in North America, temperate Asia and throughout the European continent. As the chamomile seeds need open soil to survive, it often grows near roads, around landfills and in cultivated fields as a weed. But, although everyone has heard of its existence and most of us have used for some reason or another, few actually know why chamomile has healing powers which can aid the human organism in regaining its health’s balance.

The main feature of the chamomile flower is its natural oil extract, called chamazulene alpha-bisabol. This therapeutic oil has medical qualities that enrich the infusion one creates by boiling the chamomile flowers. Due to this oil, chamomile has become known as one of the best herbs one can use to sooth pain and relax. Matricaria recuitita, which is the scientific name of the German chamomile, is the one with the highest concentration of this special oil in its strains. In fact, most of your local store’s chamomile supplies come from this type of chamomile plant.

Primarily used to heal stomach ache, like food or menstrual cramps, diarrhea, or other type of intestine pains, chamomile is kept in every kitchen cupboard as a natural healing medicine. Those who usually have to deal with stomach problems always keep a portion of chamomile in their house, while boiling water and adding chamomile has gained over the years a loyal audience all around the world. According to researchers, chamomile has been found to effectively treat sleep disorders, skin and eye problems, bad breath and other mouth health problems, mood disorders or even the flu.

For example, doctors have been recommending chamomile to people that need to get rid of an eye irritation, by simply wetting with chamomile a cotton ball and placing it on top of the eyelid. Being the main ingredient in a variety of recipes, chamomile has advanced from a simple herbal tea to a metabolic aid as it actually helps reduce blemishes and heals other type of inflammatory skin conditions. In addition, frequent chamomile drinking is advisable as a natural soother when one experiences stomach pains caused by ulcer or some type of internal gastrointestinal tract.

Since it is mild enough for everyday use, chamomile is actually one of the best choices one has to drink something that is both pleasing in the taste and has a healing potential at the same time.

If you are not one of those chamomile allergy sufferers, you should definitely try drinking chamomile instead of tea or coffee.

It is much healthier for your body and it can also be extremely invigorating.
