a friend of mine has chronic bad breath, what could be the causes?

he is in his early 60′s.. he has had this problem for about 15 years. it has gotten progressively worse. brushing his teeth doesn’t seem to be helping. what are the possible causes and solutions.
also how do i tell him he has a problem without insulting him.
when he brushes or uses gum it doesn’t actually take away the bad breath it just adds a minty smell

i think its called haliotosis….something like that. It’s a problem in the stomach. He can take stuff internally for that. Also…he might have a gum disease.

Do I have chronic bad breath? Any solutions?

I find myself to have a strong, unpleasant taste in my mouth throughout the day (not only after eating acidic foods or waking up in the morning). I brush regularly and even after scraping the back of my tongue, I still detect a hint of the unpleasant taste. I chew gum to alleviate the problem for the moment but after the gum loses flavor and I spit it out, the bad breath kicks in again. Also, I drink water/liquids regularly as well; it helps for about a minute..

The correct answer to your question is found in knowing what really causes bad breath. Up to 90 % of bad breath comes from bacteria that grow on the top of your tongue and produce the bad smells. This bacteria can often be seen as white stuff on the tongue, especially in the back of the tongue. All of this material must be removed to cure bad breath.
