6 year old had tonsils and adnoids taken out, but now he has bad breath?
My 6 year old son had his tonsils and adenoids taken out last Wednesday. I knew he was gonna have bad breath from the scabs, but how long will that last? It about knocks us out! He is to go back to school on Wednesday, but I don’t want him to get teased for his breath…Help??!!
Bad breath after tonsillectomy is caused by the healing process and by fluid from infected lymphatic tissue caused by the original infection; this liquid can reach the front of the mouth, coating the teeth, causing halitosis; changes to diet during recovery from tonsillitis can also be a cause of bad breath.
It’s essential that he gargles regularly with salt water, never store-bought mouthwash; chewing gum will also help reduce odour.
Once the tissues have completely healed and all infected lymphatic tissue has drained, the problem should disappear; if he’s still suffering from bad breath after a month he should see his doctor for an oral and pharyngeal (throat) exam, this can be a symptom of infection caused by the surgery itself.
Take care.
Lately my ears have been ringing and my tonsils are swollen?
I have always had a problem with my tonsils being very large and the ubula sticking to the sides. Lately my ears are ringing and I have bad breath. My tonsils have red veins in them and when I wake up in the morning my ears feel very clogged. Is there someone who has advice on what to do or knows what is happening? I would preferably like to hear from an ENT, but any help would be great.
Do your tonsils have white patches on them? You might have Tonsillitis, a tonsil infection. I know that when my tonsils were infected, they were enlarged and my uvula would stick to my tonsils. I know someone who had Tonsillitis and would get constant ear aches. She had to get them removed, so I suggest you go see a doctor about them.
