What could rapid pulse and heart palpitations mean during pregnancy?
I’ve read that a feeling of shortness of breath is normal during pregnancy because you’re taking in more oxygen, but that if it’s accompanied by a rapid pulse or heavy heart palpatations to seek immediate medical attention. Nowhere, however, have I seen WHY they’re bad. What are the possibilities of those symptoms?
Maternal heart palpitations are common in pregnancy, most likely representing PVCs — the feeling that your heart is racing or beating irregularly. This is normal due to the increased blood volume which peaks at 28 to 32 weeks. The stroke volume of the heart increases and under the influence of progesterone, the heart can beat irregularly occasionally. If there are symptoms of dizziness or shortness of breath, or if the client has had some history of cardiac problems, she should be seen right away, but for most this is very normal.
Is feeling the heart racing a common occurrence during pregnancy?
A significant number of cardiovascular changes occur during pregnancy, which may be accompanied by dyspnea and a reduced tolerance for endurance exercise. During pregnancy, women expand their blood volume by approximately 30-50%. This is accompanied by an increase in cardiac output. The heart rate may also increase by 10-20 beats per minute. The changes peak during weeks 20-24 and usually resolve completely within 6 weeks of childbirth.
SERIOUS PROBLEM & IM KINDA WORRIED?
i am 17 years old.
for awhile now, i’m not totally sure when it started but i’ve been having a headache every single day! idk if its a headache or migraine but it hurts bad! & i get kinda worried because i hear everyday headaches usually mean brain tumors. /: & cancerous tumors run in my family. its what everyone in my family has died of, but not this young.
also note that i THINK im STRONGLY ANEMIC. only because i DON’T drink water. i’m on birth control, the IUD Mirena. i’m always weak, my mother in law says i look yellow & sometimes pale as a ghost. i have shortness of breath, i get dizzy spells out of nowhere & nausea. basically all the pregnancy symptoms, w/ out actually being pregnant.
any thoughts? i’m greatly appreciative.
Being anemic and drinking water have nothing to do with each other. Anemic is because of lack of iron in your blood. Water doesn’t have iron. I use to never drink water and I wasn’t anemic. Also you probably have headaches because you don’t drink water. I use to have the same problem. I refused to drink water, there for I was dehydrated, so I had killer headaches all the time. Drink lots of water and your headaches should get better. But if they don’t go to the doctor.
