Feeling short of breath in early pregnancy?

I’m 8 weeks pregnant, not showing at all and very sedentary these days because of bad morning sickness. Yet I feel short of breath throughout the day and right now my resting heart rate is 100 (beats per minute). I have not done anything to exert myself. Is this normal??

Well, when you are pregnant your cardiac output increases about 40 to 50 percent ( b/c the fetus needs additional oxygen), which in turn, increases your resting heart rate anywhere from 10 to 20 beats per minute. So it all depends on what your “normal” resting heart rate is.

A typical resting heart rate for the average non-pregnant woman would be 70 bpm but the same woman has a resting heart rate of 85 bpm just by being pregnant.

It’s possible your normal heart rate is about 80-85 at rest and so now that you’re pregnant it’s more like 95-100 and so that would be normal for you.

Plus, if you are not getting much exercise right now and mostly just puttering around the house and lying/sitting when you are feeling sick, then rest assured that ANY little exertion (like going outside to feed your dogs) is going to tax you more since your endurance is really low right now, as well as your energy levels.

I would mention this at your next doctor’s visit just in case, but it doesn’t sound abnormal. Your body is working hard to make and nourish a new life!

My Wheaten Terriers breath smells horrible, any advice?

I have a 5 year old wheaten terrier and her breath smells worse than my garbage can. I had her teeth cleaned and it stopped the smell for about a week. It is coming back and I don’t understand why. Is it just her breed or is there some sort of sickness? She also has a cyst looking thing on her leg and the vet looked at it and didn’t seem too concerned so im just keeping an eye on it. If anyone has any idea as to how to fix her nasty breath, please let me know. :)
I brush her teeth at least three times a week, I have speical food for her that she has to chew a certian way to keep her teeth clean, and I feed her breath treats anc chew treats to clean her teeth. Im thinking it might be some type of acid reflux diease.

You should start brushing her teeth. That is the single best thing you can do for a dogs oral hygiene. Get a doggy toothbrush and some doggy toothpaste and see if she will allow you to brush her teeth. If she does not like the toothbrush you can use your finger wrapped in a small terry cloth with some toothpaste on it and sometimes dogs will tolerate this more. Keep her mouth closed with one hand and with the other just lift up her lip and use either the toothbrush or your finger and move it along the outside of her teeth. You could also get her some dental chews that are supposed to help. There is also a product called Oravet, some vets may or may not have it, but it is a once a week sealant application you put on the outsides of the teeth to prevent tarter build up. You could also call your vet and see if they recommend anything else.
