Taking plavix and having bad side effects?

My Doctor put me on plavix due to an injury I sustained to my carotid artery. Shortly after I started the medication, my sinuses became a problem. I can barely breath through my nose sometimes and when I clear them, a bloody clot seems to dislodge. I’ve contacted the Doctor but haven’t heard back from him yet. I’m supposed to take more tonight, but don’t want to. Any thoughts?

Your nose is full of tiny blood vessels called capillaries. In the general sense Plavix is a blood-thinner, making these capillaries more prone to leakage of small amounts of blood. Damage to the carotid has the potential for accumulating an unstable clot which could choke off carotid blood supply to the head or dislodge and travel to the brain or eye, potentially resulting in permanent damage (like blindness or stroke) or even death. Plavix keeps these clots from occuring. So while your nose congestion may be irritating and uncomfortable, the consequences of discontinuing the Plavix could be life-threatening, and I would advise you to take it until your physician contacts you.

Sinus infection or something else…?

It started 2 days ago with a burning throat and nose. I felt like I had chili peppers stuck in my sinus cavities and that my tonsils were on fire. It burned really bad for about a day and then the burning in my face turned into really bad congestion. When I blow my nose some of it is clear and some is yellow (if i can get much out) and today I cannot smell anything at all but I can breath out of my nose a little. My throat is on fire and my chest hurts (my asthma is acting up again). When I talk it sounds really bad. I am also completely drained and kinda delusional due to lack of sleep. I do not have medical insurance but I do have a really good relationship with my doctor and if I need him to he will call something in. Any advise on what it is and what I should do? Also, It feels like a sinus infection but the throat and cough are throwing me off.

This has happened to me before. It faded within about a week. I have highly severe allergies, but not asthma. I would tell you to call in your doctor, because it sounds a bit more than a sinus infection to me. Good Luck, Feel Better. xx
