What are some options for cleaning my dogs teeth that dont involve anesthesia?
My 5 year old Pomeranian has a grade 3 heart murmur. We took him in for an echo-cardiogram and the veterinarian recommended that we DON’T put him under anesthesia, but his teeth are horrible! The vet told me to brush his teeth everyday but it doesn’t help at all. His breath is very bad and we’ve tried everything – dental rinses, brushing, even this expensive gel that you put on his teeth and its supposed to remove plaque- it didnt. Are there any recommendations for cleaning his teeth that don’t involve anesthesia? With his murmur I don’t need his teeth to get any worse. Any advise would be highly appreciated! Thanks!
Raw feeding has always worked wonders on my dog’s teeth. Even something as simple as a raw chicken wing a day may be enough to get him grinding and working on those teeth. I’m not saying to switch to a raw diet or anything (even though I NEVER think it is a bad idea, lol), however a chicken wing or a drumstick is a lot of nice chewing for a dog that size and every day or every other day over time may really help.
My 4 year old dog has almost no build up (just slight build up on his canines where chewing really does no good, his back molars are spotless), and has been eating a raw diet for the past 2.5 years.
Keep in mind, however, that that is large portion of food for a smaller dog, and kibble intake should be cut to keep the weight off.
Was my friend’s dog suffering from heart disease?
My friend’s dog died today. She told by the phone this afternoon that her dog was dead. She started explaining me ,that a week ago her female dog a 8yr old Terrier mix started to show some strange symptoms. The starting symptoms were : weakness( specially in her back legs), tiredness, trouble eating, vomiting, and diarrhea. Then, these last three days her dog was: weakness (now everywhere, couldn’t even stand up), tiredness, depression, and diarrhea. She had planned the Veterinarian’s appointment today, but her dog died before she could get to the appointment. Also, her dog was suffering from bad teeth from long time ago (tooth loss, bleeding gums, and bad breath). I was shocked that she never mentioned this to me, i would’ve helped her and save her dog’s life. My question here is : Was her dog suffering from Heart Disease?
Thank You!
