What to expect during and after wisdom teeth removal?
My dentist told me that I have to get my wisdom teeth removed. My concern is that he told me that “ It will hurt a lot after “ I checked this with others who have told me they were out for a week. The wisdom teeth are enflamed and a cause of bad breath and some pain. The dentist also told me that I did not have to be put to sleep because he could not guaranty if I would wake up. How can I be awake while he cuts all four of them out? Can someone shed some positive light on this dilemma? I also have to come up with $ 1000 to get this done witch is roughly a one months salary. Can OHIP cover some of it? Thanks to all who answer.
Hey dont worry…its not as bad as it seems. I had 3 removed surgically cause they were all impacted. Before the surgery the dentist will give u about 2-3 shots of a local anaesthetic. This will really numb the area and you dont feel a thing during the surgery. If you have a good dentist he will poke the area first and really make sure you dont feel anything. And dont worry, the shots hurt a little but its bearable. The numbness last for about 1-2 hrs. Your dentist will prescribe for you pain killers to help ease the pain once the local anesthetic wears out. If you are worried, ask for stronger pain killers like Tramadol. While the wound is healing, good oral hygiene is important. Gargle regularly with an antiseptic mouth wash or salt water. As for food…its common sense to avoid hard, hot and spicy food. When I had both my lower and upper wisdom tooth removed, I stocked up on complete nutritional drinks like Ensure and Resource. One can keeps you full for about 3 hrs….so 6 cans per day if you dont feel like eating anything.
Its worth it to get it removed considering the constant pain, bleeding and annoying bad breath. It can also cause tooth decay and eventually you still have to get it removed.
All the best!
Bad taste in my mouth after wisdom teeth removal?
I just got my wisdom teeth removed on September 2. This morning i realized that there was this god awful taste in my mouth. It was definitely worse than normal “morning breath”. It seems to be coming from my bottom part of my mouth. I’ve been rinsing with salt water about 4-5 times a day and it’s not helping. I don’t know what to do. Is this normal? Any suggestions of what I can do? I have a check up on Wednesday but this is almost unbearable. I feel so nauseated and I need help. Any help or suggestions?
I have had 5 teeth pulled in my lifetime and I know exactly how you feel. Sounds gross but that bad taste/smell you are tasting is just the open wound in your mouth. If you look back there you will see nothing but tons of dry blood and maybe food in there from which you ate. It is perfectly normally and just something that you have to deal with for 2-3 days before that wound closes a little bit and stops bleeding. I know how you feel, but you just have to bare with it until it heals.
As far as anything to do, I remember the dentist saying you can not swush around anything in your mouth to make it smell better than water and salt. Listerine will burn the ever living hell out of that wound, so I don’t recommend that. There isn’t much to do but wait it out.
Good luck!
